At CustomTradingPins.com we offer three trading pin styles: soft enamel, photo etched, and offset digital. Regardless of which option you choose, we promise to bring you the best pins on the market! Take a look at our styles below and click on a particular style to view samples, pricing, and more information.
Soft enamel pins are the highest quality and most common trading pin that we sell. After being struck by the die (which forms the shape of the pin), the pin is filled in with enamel paint. The pin is then fired at low heat to bind the paint to the metal and provide a shine. Soft enamel pins are great for pin designs with lots of different colors that need to be clearly separated. The backing is 1.2mm thick and can be in gold, silver, black, or black nickel. A clear epoxy coating can be added free of charge to protect the pin from scratches or dings. While the epoxy isn't required, we definitely recommend it, as not only does it protect the pin, it also adds a layer of shine.
Photo etched pins use a 0.8mm-thick copper base. A computer etches your design onto the base. In a process similar to the soft enamel pins, paint is then applied to the pins and the pins are fired at low heat to bind the paint to the metal. An advantage of the photo etched pins is that they are lighter and thinner than soft enamel and the etching process allows for more detailed designs and a wider range of colors. As with the soft enamel pins, we recommend a free clear epoxy coating, but it is not a requirement. The epoxy coating protects the pins against scratches and dings and adds a layer of shine as well.
The final trading pin style is offset digital. The pin uses a 0.8mm-thick copper base, the same as the photo etched pins. However, the offset digital process uses the latest printing technology to print the image directly onto the metal instead of using paint. This process is perfect for designs which use a painting or photograph, or require fine lines or a specific color. Due to the process used to make these pins, a free clear epoxy coating is required to help bind the design to the metal. The epoxy coating also keeps the pin safe from dings or scratches. Offset digital pins also require an offset fee, which varies depending on the size of the pin.
